David Soto

Research

Group Leader. Ikerbasque Research Professor.

He leads the Consciousness Group at BCBL - Basque Center on Cognition Brain and Language.

Keywords: brain imaging, behavioural psychophysics, (un)consciousness, visual and semantic cognition, and metacognition.

David received his PhD in Experimental Psychology (2004) from the University of Santiago de Compostela. He then moved to UK to work at the Behavioural Brain Sciences Center at the University of Birmingham where he gained a Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship from the British Academy for the Humanities. In 2008, he set up his own laboratory at the Division of Brain Sciences at Imperial College London where he was an Assistant Professor and then Associate Professor until 2016. During his time at Imperial he received the New Investigator Award from the Medical Research Council. He was also a Visiting Scholar at Harvard Medical School and at the Neuroimaging Research Center at the University of Texas at Austin. In 2016, David returned to Spain to set up a new lab at the BCBL. Current work focusses in understanding the distinction between conscious and non-conscious processes during perceptual selection, learning and memory, language, and metacognition, using a wide range of behavioural, neuroimaging and computational methods in both typical and atypical populations. We are grateful to the Basque Government and the Spanish Ministry of Science for supporting our research.
