Infants adopt different learning strategies in order to extract relevant linguistic cues. With increasing age and linguistic experience also neuronal processing mechanisms change. The present talk will present a series of experiments adopting different learning settings (either passive listening or associating words with objects) in 6- and 12-month-old infants as well as in adults. Neuronal changes were tracked by means of the simultaneous assessment of the electroencephalography and the functional near-infrared spectroscopy.
