Infrastructure & equipment

  • MEG

Magnetoencephalography (MEG) is a non-invasive method for recording cortical activity which boasts exceptional temporal and fine spatial resolution.

  • MRI

BCBL houses a Siemens 3T MAGNETOM PRISMAfit, MR scanner that allows BCBL researchers to conduct functional MRI (BOLD and perfusion ASL), structural MRI, diffusion-weighted MRI and MR spectroscopy studies.

  • Behavioral Laboratories

Eight soundproof chambers are available to conduct behavioral experiments. Each chamber is equipped with a standardized high-quality experimental setup, which allows us to collect reaction-time data from button responses or naming latencies.

  • Eye tracking

Our center is equipped with the hardware and software resources to carry out and analyze a wide range of experiments investigating time-sensitive reading processes and using the visual world paradigm.

Our labs have one of the latest and most complete systems for eye tracking, the EyeLink 2K (SR Research Ltd.).

  • babyLAB

In our state-of-the-art infant lab, several methods and techniques are available to investigate the first steps in human language development. The behavioral set-up allows us to use the Visual Habituation, Head-turn Preference, and Intermodal Preferential Looking procedures to assess preverbal infants’ general language skills (from 3to 12 months of age) and to investigate older infants’ syntactic and lexical knowledge up to 28 months of age.

  • EEG / ERP

The center is equipped with four EEG systems, each installed in a dedicated soundproof chamber. Each chamber is equipped with a BrainAmp DC®amplifier: in addition to the normal features of an AC amplifier, this system includes a DC recording mode that offers multiple hardware filtering options.

  • OCT

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive imaging technique that uses low-coherence interferometry to capture detailed, cross-sectional images of biological tissues in medical diagnostics and research settings. OCT provides high-resolution, real-time images of tissue microstructure (retinal imaging).
